Editorial decisions for interview

Editorial Decisions

In our stages of editing our interview, we simply put our footage from our two cameras onto the time line on final cut and then cut from one camera to another to show that we had taken different shots throughout our interview. We had a variety of shots which consisted of over views, close ups, cross fade and many more. Our reason for editing our interview was so that we didn't have any long or awkward pauses through out interview and so that in ran smoothly. We also covered some of cuts by using the razor blade tool, which allowed us to have no obvious cuts.

We included sound to the begging and end of our interview for a number of reasons. The reason we added sound at the start of our interview was firstly so it would draw peoples attention to watching our interview.  We feel that not only would it make our interview look professional but it is a very good way to start an interview.
We also thought it would be a good idea to add the same sound track to the end of our interview to signal that it had finished. This also was the sound in which our credits and titles would appear over.

We included three titles in our interview.
The first title was to introduce people to the interview the title said "James O' Dricoll "My Life" ". this title was to tell people the name of the person being interviewed and to also give them an insight to what the interview is based around which is james life so we included the title "my life" in the opening title as well.

The second title was at the end of the interview before the last title this title said
" Many thanks to James O' Driscoll and to Virgin Active Health Club". I included this title at the end to show our appreciation to not only Virgin Active health club for letting us use the facility of there health club on Bath Road in Bickley, but to thank James for allowing us to interview him about his life and career.

The third title we had was right at the end of the interview, this title consisted of
" By Ryan O' Shea, Megan harcombe, Kristie Bird" we included this as we believed all professional interviews  have credits at the end telling the audience who created the interview, in this case it was three people. I  personally believe that this title is very important to include as it tells the people that this is the end of the interview.

To the left of this text is an image, this image shows an example of where i decided to cut the sound. I decided to cut the sound so that this section wasn't so boring. James drifted off the question that i asked him so i decided to cut the answer short after a specific word/sentence, i did this as it  wouldn't make it obvious that i had cut his answer short. i then simply switched to the camera view that was a close up of james face, i simply dragged the camera view across so that it looked as though we was simply changing camera view, not where i had cut the sound.  I did this throughout the editing stage of this interview.

  1. This is now a Disitinction level post Kristie. You have discussed what happened in the edit and your thought processes in detail.
